--- Bird Placement
Program, main branch located in OHIO, PO Box 347392;
Parma, Ohio 44134-7392 USA
(330) 722-1627 or (216)749-3643 accepts
all species of pet birds, from Finches to Macaws--pet birds as
well as birds that are no longer tame. Our organization
functions as a pet bird sanctuary. We will place your bird
in our Program to live with and be cared by us. We are
aviculturists and pet bird owners who are experienced in bird
care, nutrition, behavioral problems, specialized species' needs,
etc.
-- Bird Placement Program's experience with the type of birds turned over to us has shown that, for the most part, rehabilitation of wild parrots usually does not work, or may be only temporary. A parrot is still a wild animal and sometimes will behave as such. For this reason, we feel that it is not fair to stress out an untamed bird by trying to force it into a pet situation. We try to place the birds that are turned over to us in the home of one of our staff where there is another bird (companion) of the same species to keep it happy. Living a lonely existence is not necessarily the best life for any creature.
Please keep in mind that birds are flock animals and really should be around their own kind if possible. We do not mean that a bird must have a mate and be set up for breeding. Pet birds may never desire a mate but may desire other birds in the household to talk to and interact with. Many times people are quick to reach a conclusion that their bird wants to breed just because it is showing some aggression or hormonal behavior. What you have to figure out is, does your bird long for a mate or is it just hormonal during breeding season than quickly settles back down back to normal. We will help you try and figure this out.
Bird Placement Program firmly believes in conservation. Many species of parrots are dying off in the wild and many more are facing extinction. We hope that our children's children will be able to see the beauty of parrots as we have and not just see them in text books or museums as extinct species. Extinction is forever! We must stop deforestation now and do something to ensure the future of animals species.
-- Tame birds are placed in the home of one of our Associates who can provide them with one-on-one attention and love. We do not believe in housing tame pet birds in outside buildings with little human contact or set up for breeding. We feel that tame pet birds should be placed in homes where they can receive daily hands-on attention and interact with the family members of the household. It would be doing a pet bird a grave injustice to house it in a flight cage with other birds when it so desires human companionship.
---- Because we place our rescued birds with our experienced Associates, we can place birds quicker, more efficiently and with better success. We have also had tremendous, success in stopping problem birds from picking, screaming and biting. We already know the personalities and lifestyles of our Associates so it is just a matter of matching the bird's personality with the right person in our organization. Our Associates do not own these birds. BPP keeps ownership but our Associates care for and loves them in their homes for the rest of these birds' lives. BPP has tremendous success with correcting behavioral problems. We would not be able to achieve this kind of success if we adopt these birds out.
BPP's main goal is education. That is why we offer a FREE consultation to individuals wishing to purchase their first bird. We also give presentations to non-profit organizations, libraries, the Scouts, schools, etc. We have appeared on Local and National television programs, we have been featured in many newspapers and bird publications including Bird Talk Magazine and we have written and published several articles as well. We gladly supply references.
A publication, the "Bulletin"
bird magazine, (6 issues per year), is also available to the
public for only $12.00/year (covering the cost of printing and
postage) To see an article from a previous issue
The Bulletin contains
approximately 10 pages of information for both the pet bird owner
and breeder. Included are articles on bird care, species
information, nutrition, household hazards to birds, puzzles, and
much more. Subscribers also receive free classifieds.
Knowledge through education is the key to healthier, happier,
better behaved, well adjusted pet birds.
